Volunteer Info:
Up to 5.0 CEUs (RID PPO & BEI Ethics, pending) awarded for those who attend the duration of Camp, June 2-7th. Our gift to you.
Volunteers will develop skills for working with DeafBlind Youth and Mentors through direct training and mentorship.
CN 101 Track (0.8 CEUs, pending): Volunteers with little to no experience will be required to attend this entry-level workshop on Saturday and Sunday prior to guests arriving Sunday afternoon. Topics will include fundamentals for working with DeafBlind individuals, such as sighted guiding and environmental feedback.
CN 201 Track (0.8 CEUs, pending): Volunteers with some experience will be encouraged to attend this next-level workshop on Saturday and Sunday prior to guests arriving Sunday afternoon. Topics will include an advanced demonstration of Protactile Language and strategies for working with DeafBlind individuals.
CN Practicum (4.2 CEUs, pending): All volunteers who complete the full week will be eligible for credit through the practicum. Volunteers will apply learned strategies and skills, and they will meet one-on-one with mentors for feedback during the week. Mentors will be available to monitor and provide feedback in real-time throughout the week.
All training is presented in a mix of PTL, ASL and English by the team of DBCTX trainers, hosted by Heather Pavey, Camp Director. DBCTX Training Team includes Tanya Arriaga and Sarah Goodwin. Accommodations provided.
